"When it comes to reporting, the Board of Executive Directors and Supervisory Board rightly expect high quality in a short time – this is a challenge we face each and every day!"
Thomas Uchtmann has been dealing with financial services ever since the start of his professional career. Following his economics studies, this interest led him first to an auditing and consultancy firm and then, some years later, to Group Controlling/Internal Risk Management at Deutsche Rück.
His field of activity is complex, for he is developing and implementing new controlling processes that allow more precise forecasts and reporting. This means: he now knows not only the central corporate ratios, but also very many members of staff personally. After all, he is the interface between all the departments concerned – something which appeals to him, incidentally, since this stretches his communication skills. He thus ensures that a business graduate can communicate on the same wavelength with a geologist, physicist or a mathematician and that, in the end, the correct figures are correctly processed.
What he likes about Deutsche Rück in particular is that he can work very freely and that performance is not only recognised, but also honoured. He is given as much responsibility as he is willing to take on, and his career is evolving in line with his department: optimally! So Thomas Uchtmann has never regretted his personal change of scene on leaving auditing and consultancy for the world of insurance. Nor have we.
